Friday Night's

Friday nights at Aaron's house! While I've been here, its become almost a weekly thing for us to go to their house on a friday. Last night they were teaching us how to dance to indian music... they failed, we still cant dance. ha ha. But it was great fun. Me and Aaron and Sam also showed them some of our irish dance moves. ha ha. Its good fun. We also took the wii over and played some games at their house which was good fun. Mario is a nice game! ha ha. "play that nice game" ha ha. Now everyone wants to see me and sam dance, and laughs at us. ha ha. but its good fun. we went to our friend mandy's tonight, and they had us try to dance too.... apparently its quite funny cause they all bust out laughing!

New house

Here are some pics of the new house. We moved wednesday, Sam rented a donkey cart! Upper Right pic. ha ha. It was pretty cool. Our house is like 2 bedrooms, and outside "shower" that doesn't work, so we have to fill up a bucket and poor it on ourselves, and a toilet way back at the end of the yard. By toilet, i mean a outhouse. ha ha. But the rent is free, and the people who are renting it to us are very nice people, who enjoy gaffing with us.

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Today we were generally lazy. We visited the new house that we will be moving into sometime this week. Also this witness family invited us over to their house to play cricket and cards! We had a blast. In the pic with all the people is Sarita, Devi, Sam, Amrita, and Sean.

The people on the bus...

So here are the people that were in the back of the bus with me. In this pic is Roseann on the left (waterslide girl) and Rishana (aka Mando aka the girl whose seat i took....)
This is Joann, a girl from the Rosignal Cong
This is her sister Jennifer!
and this is the bus that took us! A girl named lisa was with us in the back too, and a few american sisters, but It took forever to load these pics!

A Trip To Linden

We had the opportunity to take a bus trip to Linden! The congregations of Rosignol and Hopetown got enough people to rent a bus and take a day trip! We got up early in the morning on saterday and headed out. Unfortunately, I had the most uncomforitable seat ever! And I thought it was going to break for the 3.5 hour way there! Also, the people around me weret talking that much. Around 10:30 we reached linden, seat intact, and a few of the local brothers and sisters met us there to show us around. We ran around with them for a bit, and they showed us Guyana's "famous" blue water lake! Its actually blue! Though you cant swim in it because there are too many chemicals in it. ha ha. But It was very pretty, and we got to see some hills! A nice change from the flat area around Bath Settlement. After that we got to go swimming in a river! That was great fun! The water was red near the bank, and so black when you got deeper, that it looked like coffee. It was beautiful! I thought the water was great, but my friends were freezing! ha ha. They were shaking horribly. Everyone wore a shirt and shorts to go swimming. Roseann was walking along the road, and stepped into a little slide like thing, used to funnel water off the road and flew down it! Thankfully she was okay, but we all had a good laugh! I wont let her live that one down! Ha ha. Finally we had the ride home. To me it made the trip. I moved chairs back a row by bumping Rishana out of her chair and she moved to the row behind me! The seat was solid, and then i could turn around and goof off with the back row! We had the entire back of the bus laughing, and telling jokes! It was one of those moments when your in another country with friends from a new congregation that you really begin to feel like your fitting in. Its great to have a family anywhere you go in Jah's organization. If any guyanese are reading this, Thank You for the wonderful memories. It will never be forgotten. A view of the front of the bus!The coffee water. See how dark it is! It was literally like swimming in coffee. Not hot coffee, just nice warm coffee. Ha ha. Well for me it was warm. I was like try swimming when there is ice on the water, THEN you will know what cold water is! Ha ha. They just stared at me and told me I'm crazy.
Where we swam in the river. Thats a bus load of witnesses!
Aaron at the blue lake!

My studies

American Directions: Go to 111 Shultz St, Greenville, Oh
Guyana Directions: She lives in a green house in the new sceme, past hopetown..... ha ha.
I talked to a great lady who wanted a Bible, but when I returned, her daughter gave me directions to where she actually lives. Ha ha. It took me like 2 weeks to find the correct green house, randomly going to green houses and asking if they know an older lady named S___ (Didnt want to put the name in) . Ha ha. But find her I did Sunday! And was it ever worth the effort. We had our second study, on the subject of how to be God's friend. I'm to go back Wed for our third study! I'm excited!
The man that I am studying with moved houses. He's still in our territory, but I couldn't find his house either, and so I searched and searched to no avail. Then in the ministry this morning, I hear, hey white boy! Come in! Ha ha. There he was, and he wanted to know when we could continue the study. So I'm having my third study with him on Wed too! Im pretty excited.

My day off....

So whats new. Last saterday me and Aaron visited the Rosignal congregation for service. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera, so i got no service pics. We did go back later that evening and ride our bikes there so we could take some pics of the hall. It was nice. The special pioneer that I worked with was quite the talker... even by guyanese standards! Ha ha. We took 3 houses the entire morning. On the first on, we stood in the sun for what seemed like an eternity, and my brains slowly started to fry. Ha ha. But it was worth it, I think he started a study with the lady we were talking to. The brother from england thats staying with me went to lethem this week, so he could cross the brazilian border, and get more time in the country. The country has limited the number of people that the branch is allowed to sponser to 50 people, mostly special pioneers and such, so a lot of brothers and sisters have been leaving the country after their three months are up. The only other options are to cross into another country and then come back at another time for a 3 month extension.

Hey There!

It's as hot as ever and I haven't quite melted away. I got a custom made suit done by a tailor here. I told him what I wanted, and 2 weeks later, it was supposed to be done! Now, a month later, I got it! Not exactly what I asked for, but I still like it. I had to start coming by his shop every day to get it done, and today when I picked it up, I had him add the white buttons, rather than black! ha ha. he sighed. My study wasn't home today, so that was a bummer. But I think I have 2 other potential studies now. One chinese lady today said she loved to learn about the bible. And while someone had placed the BT book w/ her, they had never returned to teach her. So, we'll see how that goes. Also Sunday, I was in service with the visiting brother, and we talked to a nice older lady who thanked us over and over for teaching her something about the Bible, and then asked us if we could bring her one... so I invited her to the meeting. We'll see how they turn out! The people here just love to learn!
What does anyone think about a red suit like the one above, with Black trimming, where the white is? I was thinking about getting another one made. It only cost me $5,000 for the material, and $10,000 to get the suit made. A mere $15,ooo dolar suit. ha ha. In american its like $75 total, not bad for a custom made suit. O well, tell me what you think of the red suit, w/ black trim....

A Random Update

Well, this is a random update. What to say... ha ha. Here are some things I found funny. Not this sunday, but the last one, an older brother gave the talk. He'd been baptized for 50 years and was a special pioneer. His talk was about how older ones could find happiness, and he said, "I personally love to hold my wife's hand, and then afterward do some hanky panky. It's good for the relationship." HA HA HA. I about died laughing. Our public needs part on thursday was "Do you pay respect to the sacred things of Jehovah." Sam's brother in england said theirs was on "Parking withing the white lines." LOL.
Service continues to be good. I ordered a custom made suit, by a tailor here, with my own design. So far, its only 2 weeks late, and way to big. ha ha. He keeps working on it, so you may all get to see it someday.

Tuesday Night

The girl in the white shirt is Mandy, green shirt is Nafeeza. I think I spelled it right. Ha ha. Well, Mandy had us out to watch a bollywood movie ;ast night. AKA Hindi movie. Over three hours later.... it was still on. Ha ha. It actually wasn't too bad of a movie. Between songs. Anywho, her and her family fed us, always a plus, and her dad has a bus, so he took us home! So it was a super great time with an amazing family! They said we need to come out again!

Another Monday

So, today was another monday. I figured that I'd write a few things interesting about service today. Today it rained in service. Not uncommon. How would that affect YOUR normal service day? You would just get into the car, and maybe take some calls... How that affects OUR service day. Well... first off most of the roads are mud... ha ha. So if it starts raining, like today, the service group does one of two things. They either disperse, as some did, or you just go under the first house you see, like we did! (Most houses are on stilts.) So we just invited ourselves in. "hey, its raining, can i come in until it starts." ha ha. And sit out the rain, then continue.
I started a study saterday, and left him a bible today, so i have two studies with him! One more and I can count it! He says to me, "I was born Hindu, and converted to christian, but I have no bible." So in my generous nature, I offered to bring one back to him, and then study it with him! I'm supposed to go back Friday for my third study! I'm pretty excited. How often do you have three studies with a person in less than a week, on his insistence!

Hmm... what to report

Well, last night we went to the Baksh house for a movie and dinner. That was kool! We watched the new Robin Hood and just chilled out. Unfortunately, we were there a little late in the evening, so there were no busses to take us home... so we walked... ha ha. 40 minutes later, we got home! ;) it was a nice walk though, the stars were out, and it was pretty. O yeah, I got my first guyaneese hair cut! lol, he's like, you want it shorter... ha ha, so its REALLY REALLY short! Finally, we might move houses. Its not for sure, but like a block over, someone offered me and sam a house to stay in for a lot cheaper than we are paying now.... actually free. ha ha. SO A LOT CHEAPER... lol. All we would have to pay for is power. I'm all for it, so we'll see. They were like, well we were going to make you an offer, but your good christian boys, so we'll let you stay for free for as long as you like, we have another house we are living in. Ha ha. Its a little smaller, but a really nice house, that is fully furnished. I'll send a pic if we move!

Updating the log

Well, there has been a lot going on lately. This last weekend we went by bus across the river, and over to Skeldon which is on the Surinam border. From there we took a supply boat down river 5 hours to Orealla, leaving in the evening and getting there in the morning. And we spent the weekend there. On the boat ride, we strung up hammocks, they were everywhere, like 3 or 4 high! It was crazy, I'll try to post some pics. So we got in on Saturday morning, then got ready and went in service with the local ministerial servant, the only servant... Sunday we took over the meeting and helped him out, since he normally does every thing himself. I was chairman, Cai gave the public talk, Sam conducted the watchtower study, and Tristan read the watchtower. It was a very memorable experience, helping so small of a congregation! The brother thanked us for coming and helping him, and asked us all to stay and help! The local congregation told us they feel so cut off from the organization out there, that when people come to visit them, it makes them feel loved and part of the congregation! We were so happy to be able to provide any encouragement we could.
We also got to swim in the river with the locals! They would all point at the white boys and laugh or stare! But come of the kids came and played with us. We, tristan and I, also bathed in the river sunday morning before the meeting! lol, talk about staring! ha ha. But it was good fun. Of course, the locals later mentioned to us it was good that the piranhas weren't around that day! Ha ha. good thing for us! One was like, a piranha ate my grandpas toe... and we were like... hm... ha ha. But the locals were swimming, so we were like eh.. ha ha. If that makes any sense.
Finally, Cai has left us. I took him to G. Town last night and we stayed there, then he flew out this morning! We all miss him!
