Cai's Guyana Dictionary

Perhaps you know that Guyana is the only English-speaking country in South America. English is the official language, but Creolese is the language of the people. It's like they speak English, but you just can't tell what they are saying. It takes a while to understand. Anyways, here are some real life expressions (spelled as I hear them)... From Cai's Dictionary

Close dat cah gate der bai, dem picknee lef it open.
Close the cardoor boy, the children left it open.

Me mash up dah crappo.
I smashed the frog (with a hammer)

Ten nuff picknee der mahn.
Ten children is a lot.

Wah appen der?
What's happening? (greeting)

balanjee
eggplant

bellna
rolling pin

lashes
spanking

Me no know who fer work wit.
I don't know who to work with.

Yo daddy dah home bai?
Is your father home?

Go call he nah!
Go call him quickly.

one one time
once in while

Rainy Dayz

Well we went in service today and worked most of the morning, but then we got rained out and came home. Its not like back in the states, where you go from your nice comfortable car to the door then get back in. Rain pretty well stops service because your walking from house to house, albiet on "paved" roads. Lol. more mud than cement. ha ha. I did place like 10 mags, so it was nice

Sunny Service Saterday

Salutations!
Shultz served in service Saturday. Smoking sun strike self. Sizzle site size=super sized! Solution? Simple! Stayed in sweet shadows. Stayed saturated! Spoke of scriptures, saying safe, simple statements. Sam spoke slickly at study. Snatching scriptures spectacularly, shaking students!
Salute!
Shultz

Cai!
The view from my hammock

Avast matey!

It be hot today! Ha ha. I went to the meeting last night, and it was nice. The cd player in the hall went out a while ago, so the boys rigged their blackberry so that we could listen songs from it. lol. about half way into the meeting, the power went out, and we went to battery power. Enough to keep the lights on, but not the fans! You'd be amazed how much the fans help with the mosquitos! When they cut out, I wondered if there would be enough left of me to make it home. ha ha. It was literally so bad that you could here clap clap clap clap from all of the brothers and sisters hitting it. It sounded like they were clapping for the talk. ha ha. I made it out in service today, and that was nice. O yeah, i found out that the brother my cousin brian knows is actually serving as an elder in my congregation! how cool is that, small world. Shiver me timbers! :)
